WordPress vs. Blogger Which One to Choose

In my previous article, I covered some basics tips you need to follow before starting your own blog. There I mentioned two of the most popularly used blogging platforms WordPress and Blogger. So clearing all your confusions in this article I am going to explain the pros and cons of each one.

One thing to note here I am doing this comparison between Blogger and WordPress.com, not WordPress.org. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two completely different platforms. I will also post an article about it.

I am going to divide this comparison into some points. I will try to keep it as short as possible while mentioning all the important points.

Cost and convenience:
Starting any new business or anything creative the first thing which comes in our mind is the cost or the investment that is to be made. Both Blogger and WordPress are free to use platforms. You need not to invest a single penny to start creating.

WordPress is very easy to use and has a very good user interface to go with it. People with very less to zero programming knowledge can also operate very easily. But one little thing to know though it's free initially, but to use its full potential You have to pay a little bit of cash. I will talk about it more on the latter part of the article.

On the other hand, Blogger is completely free of cost. You don't need to think of paying anything to anyone. All the features are free to use. But the UI is not that intuitive to set a featured image to your post or for some other basic takes you need to edit the HTML tags.

Features and Customizations:

WordPress has loads of features compared to Blogger. It lets you customize your website in every possible way but to get the full access to edit HTML and CSS  files you need to buy the wordpress.com subscription. But WordPress also houses a great library of themes some free or some paid. There is a theme for just about everything. To grow and manage your website better there are tons of free plugins available. All the plugins are easy to use and make the job so much easier. You can also use themes of your choice not necessarily that has to be in WordPress library.

Blogger has only limited sets of theme available which you can use for free. But the quality of the themes are not at per with the WordPress ones. Also, there is no support for any types of plugins. The UI is also very dated and not user-friendly.
Here you can edit the HTML and CSS files and change or tweak the themes a little bit. And Blogger is also not very good when it comes to responsive designs.

So hands down in this department Wordpress excels more than Blogger.

SEO & AdSense :
SEO and Adsense these two are very important aspects to your blog. SEO or search engine optimization is the way by which you can attract more and more traffic to your website. I have written a separate article on SEO check it out here
If you create your blog on WordPress you'll get better SEO than Blogger.

Now coming to Adsense, it is the way by which you can monetize your content you can also check out my separate article on this here. As both AdSense and Blogger are google products Blogger gets AdSense approved comparatively faster than WordPress.

4. Some other Points:

  • Wordpress is a self-host service so it is you who decide when to shut it off you have the total control but in case of Blogger google has the control they can shut it down if they want like they did with many of their services in the past and Blogger also haven't received any updates for so long.
  • WordPress has better support and user base and has many active forums but Blogger doesn't have that much support.
  • Lastly, as the time of writing this article WordPress has a very good mobile app from where you can write and control the whole blog but the Blogger app is so outdated and not good at all.

Conclusion:

Both the platforms are very good and as a beginner, you can go for any of them but if you want more of a professional looking website then go for WordPress. But simplicity and getting the job done is your motto then blogger is for you. No matter which one you choose to focus on your content more

Hope you guys liked this comparison and this may have solved some of your doubts. For any queries or suggestion get in touch on Facebook and Instagram.
